Plantilla:Comic storyA Chance for Romance is the first issue of the Marvel Comics serial for Beauty and the Beast.

Synopsis[]

The higher-up household servants, Cogsworth, Lumiere, and Mrs. Potts, are in a tizzy trying to figure out why their Master, the Beast, has woken-up in a bad mood, but none of them are right about the reason. Mrs. Potts reasons that only Belle is capable of reasoning with him.

Meanwhile, back in the local Village, Gaston is still trying to think of how to get Belle to marry him, but doesn't know where she is, (having still not realized she not been in the village for a while). The Bimbette Triplets use a love potion as a perfume in-order to get Gaston's attention, a plan which almost works but gets foiled by a skunk.

Mrs. Potts mulls over how to broach the subject of the Beast's recent temper tantrum to Belle before she takes her tea out to her.

Out in the forest, the Bimbette Triplets set a trap to snare Gaston in a net, who is out hunting accompanied by LeFou, who gets snared in the net instead of Gaston.

Outside, Mrs. Potts brings Belle out her tea, but Belle is too absorbed in her book, "Lost at Sea", to ask Mrs. Potts anything. Mrs. Potts' youngest son, Chip, who's too young to understand tact, just blurts out the household servants' current dilemma with their Master, as Madame de la Grande Bouche's surprise birthday is coming up and they fear that the Beast's temper will ruin the party.

Belle goes to confront the Beast upfront about his recent behavior and finds him in the Parlor. After he fails in a half-hearted attempt to intimitate her off, starts to talk about the dream he'd had the night before. Thinking that he'd had a bad dream, Belle assures him that dreams cannot hurt him, but the Beast reveals that it had been a good dream; the 'nightmare' began when he woke up and saw his reflection, reminding him of his current state of being. Belle assures him that dreams likewise can come true, and tries to cheer him up by inviting him to Madame de la Grande Bouche's surprise party, to which the Beast reluctantly accepts.

Cogsworth, Lumiere & Mrs. Potts, having eavesdropped on the whole exchange, rush to get the preparations for the party ready.
